#375 How to Get Unstuck and Get to Your Life’s Work

October 27, 2022 By Jim Harshaw

A person underlining the phrase "Take action now." (Success Through Failure episode 375: How to Get Unstuck and Get to Your Life’s Work)Henry David Thoreau said, “The masses of men lead lives of quiet desperation,” but that doesn’t have to be you. This is your sign to take action and unleash the greatness inside of you.

Do you sometimes feel like you have this deep nagging question inside of you of “what’s next?”

Do you struggle to find time to work on the things that you want to achieve, but you feel like you’re being pulled in a million different directions, which leaves you wishing for more time in the day?

Well, I got news for you— the key to solving this is in you.

Behind the excuses and your fears, there’s actually MORE potential inside of you.

In this episode let’s talk about the catalyst or the small actions that you can do now that will set off a larger chain reaction so you can find your life’s work and achieve your own personal greatness. Tune in now!

[00:00] Normally I start with an intro, these episodes, but today I wanna cut right to the chase about how to find your life's work. Like, do you wanna get clear on the goals for your life? Do you sometimes feel like you have this deep nagging question inside of you, of what's next? Do you struggle to find time to work on the things that you want to achieve in your life, but you feel like you're pulled in a million different directions, like you wish you had more time in the day?

[00:27] Well, guess what? I got news for you. No one's coming to. Things aren't going to change just by waking up tomorrow and doing the same thing for no better reason than that's what you did today and you're probably gonna do the same thing today for no better reason than that's what you did yesterday and that's what's led you here.

[00:43] Sure, things may be fine, but you're not okay with settling for fine. Fine is mediocre fine is what you say. When you're unfulfilled. Fine feels like driving around with a parking brake. And it's costing you. You're not performing at your maximum potential. You're not making the money that you could be making.

[01:00] You're not as healthy and as fit as you could be. You're not as productive as you could be. You're not giving your family or your work your absolute best and you're not making the impact that you know that you wanna make. People say, Hey, you just have to work hard. Everything's gonna fall into place.

[01:17] Just work hard. Well, you already work hard. You're already working hard. For what you know, a gold watch that you'll receive when you retire for years of dedication to a job that you dreaded going to for a life that fell short of the impact that you wanted to have in the world. But here's the thing, if you're willing to stop for just long enough and you can find the clarity and the focus and the consistency and balance that you need and that you want in your life, so you can maximize your potential and lead the life that you know is possible for you.

[01:49] You continue. You continue in the rat race. You continue to be busy. You continue to always think that happiness will come if you just work hard. Quick interruption. If you like what you're hearing here and you want to learn how you can implement this into your life, just go to JimHarshawJr.com/apply to see how you can get a free one-on-one coaching session with me.

[02:12] That's JimHarshawJr.com/apply. Now, back to the show. Henry David Thoreau said this is a quote, The masses of men lead lives of quiet desperation. But that doesn't have to be you. Like you don't wanna play to the level of your competition. You wanna be significant, you wanna crush you to work, you wanna be an awesome parent and spouse and leader at work.

[02:35] You wanna be fit, you wanna make more money, you want a clear path of what to do next. So you can have all those things. And look, I don't know where you're at, The listener sitting there as you making dinner, or maybe you're on the treadmill or commuting to work. Maybe you already make a great. I mean, you just feel like there's certain pieces of your life that are not there yet that will make it complete.

[02:57] Or maybe you have a great job but have areas of your life that aren't working well. And maybe you have great relationships with your spouse or your family, but you're not providing for them at the level that you know you could and that you want to. Like. It might be spending time coaching your kids' sports teams or going on date nights with your spouse, your favorite restaurants downtown a couple times a.

[03:16] Maybe you feel like you're moving forward and achieving good things in your life, but you know that if, if you are just more fit and healthy, then you'd be able to take giant steps towards that dream life that you really do want. Maybe you have a business or a book or some other form of greatness inside of you that you wanna unlock and unleash on the world, but you're too busy, you're too busy to get to your life's.

[03:38] And I know I've been there. I've been the guy who was spitting his wheels, working hard aimlessly, pushing myself towards something I didn't even know if I wanted it, but I figured out how to break out of my limiting beliefs that were dictating my actions that were holding me back. And you know that this is what you need to do too, but you don't know where to start.

[03:58] So you keep moving forward without a plan. And sure, maybe you have this loose, undefined vision, but that's not the crystallized plan that you. So when will you stop? When will you get out of the rat race? Get off the treadmill. When will you invest in yourself? When will you give yourself the opportunity to think about what you really want from life and then document it in a way that provides you a target to aim at that's worthy of you being all in on your life's work?

[04:26] Because when you do, when you make that commitment to yourself, then and only then will you find clarity of action and peace of. So here are two things that you can do right now. First, block off one hour of time on your calendar for next week, and then one more hour the following week, and then use the first one, the one next week.

[04:47] The first one you schedule. Use that to write the vision for your life in three years, and here's a framework for you to script out this vision. What do you want your relationships be? Health and wellness, What do you want that to be like? And then your professional life, your wealth, your work, your finances.

[05:03] So one is relationships, two is health, and three is profess. Then use the second hour, the following week to review, edit, and revise and update that vision after it marinates in the back of your mind for a week. But Jim, I thought you were gonna gimme this magic pill, or maybe you were gonna do it for me or gimme something that I don't have to really work hard.

[05:22] To make this happen? No, no one can do this for you. Just like no one can do your pushups for you. And I told you I was gonna give you two things. Here's the second one, Get a coach and I can hear you thinking right now a coach, like that's for other people, not me. Maybe that you think like that's for people who need to get their lives together.

[05:38] Or maybe you already know that successful people have coaches and you're thinking that's just for like elite executives or professional athletes. I'll get a coach when I'm at that next level. Like do you hear the contradict? In that last sentence, Tom Brady, he's arguably the greatest player ever in the game of football, but he has strength coaches and nutrition coaches, and even a quarterback coach.

[05:58] That's what it takes. To get out of your own way, to find your own version of your own personal greatness. And of course we have an amazing coaching organization and we work with high-performing men and women who are stuck at their current level and they feel like they have more to offer the world and you know, they wanna find more time and create a vision for their lives and, and create a plan to execute it.

[06:21] But even if you don't work with. Work with someone, start somewhere. I coach my clients to find the smallest action that you can take, and I call it a catalyst. The smallest action that you can take that sets off a larger chain reaction. And for you right now, that would be going to JimHarshawJr.com/apply to sign up for a free call with me or, and maybe just doing a Google search for executive coaches or life coaches in your area.

[06:49] That small action, that Catalyst will very like. Change your life forever. Take action now.

[07:00] Thanks for listening. If you want to apply these principles into your life, let's talk. You can see the limited spaces that are open on my calendar JimHarshawJr.com/apply, where you can sign up for a free one time coaching call. With me and don't forget to grab your action plan. Just go to JimHarshawJr.com/action.

[07:19] And lastly, iTunes tends to suggest podcasts with more ratings and reviews more often. You would totally make my day if you give me a rating in review. Those go a long way in helping me grow the podcast audience. Just open up your podcast app. If you have an iPhone, do a search for success through. Select it, and then scroll the whole way to the bottom where you can leave the podcast a rating and a review.

[07:45] Now, I hope this isn't just another podcast episode for you. I hope you take action on what you learned here today. Good luck and thanks for listening.
